In A Parallel Universe
In A Parallel Universe is a mobile/PC tactical castle defense game about zombies trying to survive a human invasion.
The game is set in an alternate universe where a peaceful zombie planet has been infected by an antivirus, converting zombies to vile humans. The player has to build a base, create and maintain an undead army to fend off the relentless human invasion!
Features both campaign and infinite modes, with different kinds of zombies, structures, upgrades and effects allowing the player to defend their territory however they wish.
As the game designer for the game, I was responsible for designing and balancing the game system, and most of the level design. I was also responsible for all design documentation to convey to artists and other designers accordingly. This was my first strategy game project, and as such it taught me a lot about game balancing through user-testing. As my first experience with touchscreen game design, I learnt how to design for those controls.
As the sole programmer of the game, I wrote the entire code for the game in GameMaker:Studio, in GML. This was the first time I worked on a mobile game, and I learnt how to handle different resolutions and use texture-pages to that extent.
