Regalia Alpha |
The Game
Regalia Alpha is a metroidvania-themed action platformer with a twist - the player levels down as they progress, and loses their skills/abilities gradually.
It was originally made for the 21-day long Official GameJolt Glitch Competition, where it came in 3rd place. The game was praised for its novel mechanic and the narrative. My Role
As the game designer for the game, I was responsible for designing the system of reverse-RPG mechanics, and all of the level design as well as the story. One of the main challenges here was to design for the reverse-RPG mechanic - where the player is essentially the strongest in the beginning. Hence the game's difficulty was made progressively harder not by enemies getting stronger, but by the player getting weaker.
As the sole programmer of the game, I was responsible for writing the entire code for the game in GameMaker:Studio, in GML. This included attack/combo systems, AI, dialogue systems etc. |
